Science Academy

EST. 2006


Mission:  To enhance science education with “real-life” science beyond the conventional classroom; including competitions, professional outreach, conferences/conventions, meetings, lectures, and research based, lab driven, field experiences for students who have career interests in science, engineering, math, and/or technology fields.

Science Academy students must:

✭     Have a career interest in science, technology, engineering, and/or math (STEM) field.

     Pass three core science courses (CP or Honors level Biology, Chemistry, and Physics).  Course Offerings

     Have a minimum of two science electives. One of these electives must be at the Advanced Placement or Dual Credit level.  Course Offerings

    Successfully complete math courses to the level of pre-calculus or equivalent level.

    Attend FHS Science Academy lectures.

     Be an active participant in a variety of science related activities such as: competitions, peer tutoring, workshops, professional science organization meeting, Junior Science and Humanities Symposium, or other board approved activities.

     Have a minimum of one semester of field experience in a program approved by the science department advisory committee.  Science Research Mentoring Project.

✭      Prepare an abstract, poster, paper and  photo essay that describes your research experience.

Upon successful fulfillment of these requirements students will receive special recognition upon graduation.

Academy Announcements
Class Monday
Don't forget that we have class Monday Dec. 12th. Research papers and drafts for Spring students are due on this day.
Donations for Dogs
Don't forget to bring your donation this week for the Wilderwood Service Dogs. I will give any money collected to Marilyn Mele next Monday. If you have started any other projects to try to help this organization out, please let me know so that I may tell her this information as well.
Science Lecture Series
We are excited about alternating our science lectures this year between Hardin Valley Academy and Farragut High School. Each student who is a part of the Science Academy at Farragut High School will be expected to attend 5 lectures this year. Here are the dates of the lectures and there locations. All lectures will start at 7:00 and are located in the library at FHS or the auditorium at HVA.
